Why Travel Insurance is So Important

I never travel internationally without travel insurance.  Why? Well, put simply, travel insurance can not only protect you if you get sick or injured, but can give you peace of mind in knowing that most elements of your trip are protected.

It’s always a good idea to have travel insurance in case something goes wrong. From a monetary standpoint, the more expensive a trip is, the more important it is that you protect your investment with travel insurance. Trip cancellations due to hotel mistakes, flight cancellations, flight delays and weather issues (think typhoons, monsoons and hurricanes!) can turn that $20,000 Maldives trip-of-a-lifetime into a disaster.

From a safety standpoint—even if you are a budget traveler and haven’t invested a lot of money into a trip—travel insurance is wildly important.  What happens if you get hit by a bus? What happens if you slip while hiking and slide down a trail into a ravine, requiring a helicopter to airlift you out? What if you pick up a parasite or disease that has you hospitalized in a remote destination with no way of getting you back home?

I like to use World Nomads, though you should compare different travel insurance companies and find the one that is right for you.  Always read the terms and conditions and be sure to read through the policy wording and description of coverage to decide whether the policy you choose is right for you.  Not all policies are equal and it's extremely important for you to find the policy that works for you and your trip.

If you have a trip coming up, I would suggest using the form below to get a free quote.  It doesn't hurt to take 5 minutes to see how much it will cost to insure your trip.
